Bi-folding doors SL 97
Window types from Solarlux
Product description
Contemporary living in harmony with nature combined with a fluid relationship between interior and exterior were the underlying ideas behind this detached house in Pulheim near Cologne. An apparent contradiction in terms - the idea to combine openness and transparency with optimal heat insulation and excellent standards of energy efficiency. Design architect Wolfgang Herich has achieved exactly that in the functional layout of this rendered building. The cubic structure of the passive house, with its clean lines and bold shapes, presents a closed face to the street but is almost fully open to the garden. To create an almost seamless transition between the modern open-plan kitchen-living room and the expansive garden grounds, the flexible folding glass door SL 97 manufactured by Solarlux was installed. The wood/aluminium system, which is suitable for passive houses, is cleverly positioned in the south and west of the house to give an al fresco feeling when the 6.30 m and 4.50 m wide glass fronts are fully open. The high-quality stainless steel sliding technology ensures maximum ease of operation, meaning the panels move extremely smoothly.
The FSC-certified oak used both on the patio and on the inside of the panels of the folding glass doors provide that extra connection to nature. To accentuate its natural character, the wood has simply been clear-varnished. This also creates an air of comfort and cosiness indoors. On the outside, rear-ventilated aluminium facing sheets ensure durability and low maintenance. What makes the SL 97 so energy-efficient is the special form of its sections: between wood and aluminium is a layer of insulation, which ensures outstanding thermal insulation properties. In fact, this triple-glazed folding glass door achieves passive house standards.
The SL 97 can be used for energy-saving modernisation projects as well as for new buildings. It is available in every conceivable colour, allowing it to blend in with the architecture of the particular house.
