Our Story

About Our Story
What began as a bold idea of two Swiss-trained architects in 2003 – an online product and materials library where architects could quickly compare high‑quality products – has evolved into the definitive workspace for design specification.
Within a couple of years of launching, we were partnered with the world’s leading manufacturers, setting a new benchmark for curated product presentation. Continued expansion welcomed millions of architects, interior designers and planners to our community, while successive releases of intelligent search, personalised workspaces and data‑rich editorial storytelling cemented our role as both tool and thought‑leader.
A pivotal moment arrived in 2020, when we merged with ArchDaily, the most visited architecture platform globally, followed by our acquisition of Designboom two years later. Our resulting family makes us the A&D industry’s most influential ecosystem for design specification, inspiration and celebration. Today, powered by expert knowledge and tireless digital innovation, Architonic remains the go‑to destination for discovering and implementing the world’s best design.
2003Architonic is founded in Zürich by architects Tobias Lutz and Nils Becker, together with IT specialists Dieter Schumann and Thomas Navello, kicking off the first curated online product library for the A&D community.
2006The 'Virtual Showroom' launches, streaming real-time product data into design dealers' own websites – an early SaaS play that brings retailers into Architonic's rich ecosystem.
2010A big social-media push ('Let's come together') grows an audience of nearly a million followers, helping to define the brand's now-familiar editorial voice even further.
2012Architonic opens its Berlin subsidiary, establishing the firm's first permanent office outside Switzerland.
2013Launch of Architonic's successful brand-content service – crafted storytelling 'by architects for architects'.
2015Swiss publisher NZZ Media Group acquires a majority stake, supplying capital, media know-how and a growth mandate.
2018NZZ raises its holding to 81%, cementing the long-term partnership.
2020Architonic acquires ArchDaily, marrying the world's largest architecture-project site with its own product database, to form a 180-million-visitor powerhouse.
2022Designboom joins the family, and the triumvirate of channels is branded 'DAAily Platforms', creating the biggest global A&D content network.
2023Architonic's 20-year anniversary ushers in a Web 3.0/AI phase.
2025DAAily platforms operates out of Zurich, Berlin, Milan, Windhoek, Santiago de Chile and Mexico City, with around 200 specialists powering more than 270 million annual visits.

Headquartered in Zurich, we work out of offices and studios across three continents, including Berlin, Stuttgart, Milan, Mexico City and Santiago de Chile. We’re born collaborators – united by a love of making, a bias for clarity, and an ambition to give the creative community superpowers!
