Special Newsletter BAU 2015

Bodega Antión, La Rioja, Spain: exposed concrete coloured with pigments

Compared with other European building fairs, BAU München is by far the most international. This applies both to the companies exhibiting their products and the 50,000 or so trade visitors from all over the world who are expected to attend. One reason for this is the wide range of thematic areas covered at the fair, including building materials, processing technologies, facade finishes and interior decoration and fittings. All of this creates an attractive information mix that is of interest not just to skilled craftsmen, but also to the building trade in general. And BAU has succeeded better than any other trade fair in dragging architects and interior designers away from their computer screens. It is this combination that represents the real potential of the fair.

Given this wealth of materials, products, systems and concepts, it is essential for visitors to be able to find their way around quickly and reliably. We have therefore prepared our usual Architonic Guide to the fair, which, as always, focuses on the requirements of architects in particular. The guide can be downloaded from Architonic.com starting 22 December 2014. It will also be available at BAU itself from 19 to 24 January 2015.

Konya Stadium, Mehler Texnologies

ADAC headquarters in Munich and RheinGalerie in Ludwigshafen, CenoTec

In the past, reusable and recyclable materials have included wood and mud (huts built by nomadic peoples) and even snow (the igloos of the Inuit). Today, temporary structures are often made of textiles, metal or wood, but above all of synthetic materials. Synthetics are enjoying a revival in the form of exhibition and concert pavilions and sports halls.

At 2:30 p.m., the model of the new Konya Stadium in Konya, Turkey, will be unveiled in our LOOPs2.0 pavilion. This state-of-the-art stadium can hold more than 42,000 visitors. The cladding is made of textiles manufactured by Mehler Texnologies.

We invite you to visit us in Munich in January!

Concrete in Architecture

Concrete in Architecture (1): a material both stigmatised and celebrated

Almost no other material manages to carry such contradictory associations. Stigmatised on the one hand, celebrated on the other, it evokes highly diverse reactions... (Text by Susanne Fritz)

Concrete in Architecture (2): not really grey

In the second part of our 'Concrete in Architecture' series, Architonic shows how concrete certainly doesn't have to be grey. From delicate tones to high luminosity, it can take on a wide range of chromatic and emotional complexions... (Text by Susanne Fritz)

Concrete in Architecture (3): Furniture & Objects

In what for the moment will be the last part of our "Concrete in Architecture" series the focus will be on the use of concrete in interior architecture, in particular for creating objects and furniture... (Text by Susanne Fritz)
