The shape of the curling steel rods topping the coat stand vaguely recalls a 17th century wig, to which the design's Italian name alludes. Whimsy aside, this arrangement is extremely practical since almost any item of clothing can be hung on the stand. Another practical feature is the way the stainless steel section revolves around the stand's stem, making it easy to find items wherever they happen to be hung. The Parucca's wide base makes it a very stable design.
The Parruca is the work of the same three experienced architects and designers who jointly produced such pioneering products as the Blow chair in 1967 (the first mass-produced piece of inflatable furniture, which became a symbol of 1960s pop culture) or the Joe inflatable armchair (1970) which was shaped like a baseball glove in homage to the legendary Joe Di Maggio.
