Workplaces today can be many things – but not monotonous. From open spaces and shared desks to focus areas, cosy lounges, mobile work settings or the home office: there is a wide variety of possible environments in which individuals can carry out their work. Such diversity hence calls for a range of furniture that can seamlessly adapt to different scenarios, allowing for spontaneous use and responding to specific ergonomic requirements.

This includes swivel chairs, such as the new intelligent swivel chair Indeed automatic from the premium German brand Dauphin. Designed for flexible desk use, this contemporary seating solution lets users sit down, lean back and be embraced in comfort without the need for any further adjustments apart from the seat height. It’s truly a blessing. Moreover, for those who prefer finer adjustments, additional locking options are available, enabling personalized settings such as seat depth and tilt, backrest tilt and height, and lumbar support depth.

Simply simple? Cleverly thought out!

Dauphin developed Indeed automatic on the basis of the existing Indeed chair family by designer Rüdiger Schaack. It’s clear here we’re talking about a clever refinement, not about cutting back on features (although the Indeed automatic is a bit slimmer). Things get particularly interesting where the seat cushion and backrest come together, referred to by Dauphin as the Motionflex®-Automatic – a curved plastic component that not only forms the visual backbone of the chair, but is primarily intended to provide the backrest with balanced suspension and automatically generates a counterforce from the material in the seat area.

More precisely, in combination with innovative lamella technology, which results in a finely balanced spring mechanism, the backrest flexibly follows the movements of the sitter laterally and, at the same time, the backrest counterpressure of the Indeed automatic also adapts to users’ body weight. This is particularly useful when a chair is used by many people interchangeably. For example, now that working from home has become the norm for many, not every employee is assigned a fixed desk at the company headquarters. Team members therefore may sit in different chairs at the office without having to readjust their chair every time.

Seven layers of seating comfort

In addition, wonderful seating comfort is provided by a point-elastic upholstery with a total of seven layers, including a micro-pocket spring core, which is designed to provide excellent weight and pressure relief. This prevents unpleasant pressure on the underside of the thighs and also increases breathability.

The Indeed automatic is available as a swivel chair with or without ergonomic neck support and as a counter swivel chair – all with a choice of an upholstered backrest or with a semi-transparent, even lighter-looking mesh construction. For ergonomic arm support, the Indeed automatic features height and width-adjustable or multifunctional armrests with soft PU arm pads.

Reduced use of materials, increased sustainability

Dauphin has placed particular emphasis on the consistent pursuit of its sustainability standards. ‘Every component of the Motionflex®-Automatic is designed to minimise the use of materials,’ emphasises Rüdiger Schaack, whose creative input is also behind this new evolutionary stage of the seating family. Thanks to a consistent reduction in the use of materials, the Indeed automatic versions are on average 10% lighter than the previous Indeed models with Syncro-Evolution® technology.

And that's not all: in the production of Indeed automatic, Dauphin uses upholstery covers made from ‘Sealife’, an attractively structured fabric in plain and mélange colours (SEAQUAL® YARN), which is made from 100% recycled polyester – at least 10% of which is recycled marine plastic. The office furniture brand is thus making a voluntary, important contribution to cleaning up the oceans. At the same time, the packaging volume has been reduced by a whopping 60%, which in turn increases loading capacities during transport and, consequently, reduces CO2 emissions due to more effective journeys. Another aspect is the focus on suppliers from the region, meaning companies producing within a radius of around 30 kilometres of the Dauphin plant in Offenhausen, Middle Franconia.

This approach by Dauphin shows very well that there is never just one measure, but ultimately many smaller steps that have to go hand in hand when it comes to conserving resources and protecting the environment. Indeed automatic has received several awards for its sustainable approach, including the German government's ‘Blue Angel’ eco-label. Keep up the good work!
