Opening up new perspectives on the bathroom by establishing it as ‘a place of calm and reflection, of security and relaxation’: such was the declared aim when Hansgrohe first launched the AXOR brand. Sounds highly contemporary, but it was actually 28 years ago – and shows how people were already viewing their daily lives as hectic, even back then. The bathroom had previously been regarded as a purely functional space, but from then on, the bathroom faucet and shower manufacturer from Germany’s Black Forest devoted its attention to this space, backed by the tools of design. Bathrooms became miniature oases, designed entirely for the pleasure of body and mind.

The first collection was designed by French designer Philippe Starck in 1994, as the prelude to a long collaboration. The following year, with the ‘salon d’eau’ concept, Starck proved that bathrooms can also function without the usual tiles, performing more as a feel-good space than a functional cell. With AXOR Starck, the designer supplied the accompanying collection of fittings – an intricate challenge for the company’s development team due to the extremely slender forms.

Avant-garde, individualisation and perfection – the AXOR brand has been inseparable from these three pillars ever since. Author-based design is also part of its identity. Philippe Starck was followed by numerous collaborations with other greats from the world of furniture design: Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Jean-Marie Massaud, Barber & Osgerby and many more. They’ve all contributed to AXOR’s unmistakable signature – but ultimately, users themselves have equally helped to shape the AXOR look.

Special requests, even surfaces in pure gold, can also be implemented with the AXOR Signature Service. In addition, the dimension of the products can be modified according to individual requirements, adapted as one-off pieces and marked with inscriptions or emblems.

AXOR pushes design to the limit to make the bathroom the perfect refuge to relax and unwind.
