Gotthard Raststätte

The service area is characterised by its unique location in an impressive alpine landscape with direct access to the natural area on the Reuss. The building volume is based on the freestanding individual buildings in Uri's valley floor. The archetypal silhouettes of the functional wooden buildings are taken up and arranged as four building volumes according to their uses. The permeable facade of the wooden building allows a smooth transition between inside and outside. The environment is visible and perceptible in all rooms. Conversely, the interior radiates to the outside and the building is brightly inviting. Principles from local, historical typologies are applied in a contemporary way.
