Japanese minimalism meets Star Trek

The relocation of Dentsu (now McgarrryBowen) to new offices in London’s west end – a total of 11,000 sq feet over four floors.

The brief included:
- combining multiple divisions for the first time under one roof in the west end;
- bringing all the various business and geographical cultures together;
- creating a high-impact space with a real sense of arrival.

Our greatest challenges were:
- working against a base build interior that was delicate and hand finished in some places;
- chilled beams to most of the ceiling areas that challenged cellularisation.

Effectiveness:
‘The effect on three workforces coming together has been simultaneously to inspire, calm and motivate. The teams all now work in an obviously democratic and collaborative environment. Visitors to our offices are conditioned on arrival to expect the unexpected as well as getting a futuristic outlook on the communications business. I believe our new surroundings have given us an enormous head start in the job of ‘making future magic’.’
(Jim Kelly, Regional Director, Dentsu Europe)
