Vintage Moroccan Beni Ourain Runner

Rugs from Nazmiyal Rugs

Product description

Here is a beautiful, intriguing vintage rug – a Mid-Twentieth Century composition woven by the widely-admired Beni Ourain tribespeople of Northern Morocco, a group which has been among the most celebrated weavers of traditional, tribal rugs anywhere in the world. This particular example features a fascinating composition – roughly, this runner-length rug is separated into eight distinct portions, each separated from the other by a single dark brown horizontal line. This dark brown color, which is closer to black in some areas and closer to sienna in others, is the only tone utilized in the composition of detail throughout this carpet, which features an underlying ivory-brown tone. This coloration is consistent with most Beni Ourain carpets, which emphasize line work and abstraction over bright colors. Traditional, understated Beni Ourain elements of design appear in each of the eight portions of this charming rug, with stylized crosses and deeply deconstructed floral elements appearing in each. The entire composition is bounded at the top and the bottom by a dark line punctuated with ivory squares, symbolically communicating the beginning and the end of the rug. A beautiful, traditional vintage Beni Ourain rug, this Mid-Century composition from Morocco is both tribal and modern at the same time, and would surely bring a unique and understated beauty to any modern interior.
