For Lazio 2, Anne Birgitte Hansen has chosen a simple yarn-dyed fabric made of pure cotton, in linen weave, which has an inviting canvas-like appearance. The material is based on two shades, which gives it depth and character. The colour palette for Lazio has been tightened and intensified: the new shades have a more graphic expression inspired by accent colours. The innovative new colour range for Lazio 2 includes shades like sand, ivory, slate and tobacco (a reddish-brown). Lazio 2 and Lucca complement each other – the shiny look of one contrasts with the matte look of the other. Named after a region and a city in central Italy, these collections reflect two of the designer’s main passions: a love of all things Italian and simple, stylish Danish textile design. By combining these two, Anne Birgitte Hansen has again succeeded in introducing innovation to the classic Scandinavian weaving tradition.
Two key themes are reflected across Anne Birgitte Hansen’s work: the inspiration nature provides and the interaction between the designer’s drawings and paintings and the practicalities of the industrial production process. Originally from the Danish island of Bornholm, Anne Birgitte Hansen was fascinated by weaving and began at an early age. Subsequently, she attended the School of Arts Crafts and Design in Copenhagen where she studied Industrial Design. She went on to attend “Fondazione Arte della Seta” in Florence, where her love affair with Italy began and she studied woven replicas of old renaissance textiles. Always innovative and simple, Anne Birgitte Hansen’s textile collections are remarkably diverse, ranging from simple woven upholstery to printed motif-laden curtain fabrics.
