With a whole host of customisable options, Maxalto's latest 2023 furniture range ignores the temporary interior trends of the moment, in favour of a more timeless individual style.

While our fast-paced design industry pushes for new launches responsive to fleeting market trends, the Maxalto brand leans confidently further into its own vision, aiming at creating not only timeless pieces of furniture, but an all-encompassing interior atmosphere. Maxalto believes that there is more power in consistency; and that is proven in the trusted reputation it has established with interior designers across the globe.

The updates appeal to the contract sector where designers are required to create tailor-made atmospheres of elegance for interiors of all scales

This consistency can be credited to Antonio Citterio, Maxalto Art Director at the helm of design and coordination since 1995. His formula based upon the bourgeois elegance of Interwar Paris – a period of understated style, modernity and generosity – and uncompromisingly high quality materials, craftsmanship and customisation, still holds relevance today. Consequently, Maxalto can be seen as a fast-track to sophistication for residential and hospitality interiors.

Seamless evolution

Consistency, however, should not be mistaken for a resistance to change; Maxalto is always evolving in thoughtful re-editions, useful extensions and technological updates. The latest introductions, launched at Maison & Objet in January 2023, expand on furniture adaptive to multiple scales of space and furniture that offers increasing options for customisation. These updates no doubt appeal to the contract sector where designers are required to create tailor-made atmospheres of elegance for interiors of all scales.

Notable for its soft and technically-exacting upholstery, Maxalto’s catalogue updates with two new seating systems. Bringing personality and presence to large spaces, the generous Arbiter system features over-sized cushions and plenty of options for customisation, including the addition of Citterio’s beloved ‘discontinuous backrest’. Meeting demand at the other side of the scale for more intimate interiors is the new modular Lilum system, with its compact elements composed of organic lines typical of the post-war period.

A series of new re-editions show Maxalto connecting deeper to its own design history. Two oak-framed chairs, Cleide and Despina, designed by Antonio Citterio at the dawn of Maxalto’s trajectory are relaunched with updated materials, production techniques and sizes. While after an aesthetic and technical revamp in 2020, the Amoenus Soft swivel sofa is now available in a smaller size.

Customising for comfort

Increasing customisation across its catalogue positions Maxalto as a very contemporary atelier with an artisanal spirit. Offering myriad options for combinations of colour, texture, material, size and finish all allow for a personal and site-specific interior – resulting in a very pure form of comfort that is intuitive to each interior lifestyle.

The rounded lines of the bed, the handmade raffia and banana leaf fabric panels of the screen and 100 per cent wool rug bring absolute comfort to any interior

For example Maxalto’s small tables offer more options than ever before, ready to be artfully layered into any setting. New for 2023, the Elio series is available in oval or round, with or without the removable oak tray, and in a range of finishes. And the Loto table is now available in an additional taller size, that can be combined with a tray for breakfast in bed or a cocktail hour.

On a more holistic scale, even when products are used together, one interior will never look the same. Imagine an elegant cocoon-like bedroom created with three new Maxalto pieces: the Sileo bed, the Privatus screen and the Diakos rug. The rounded lines of the bed, the handmade raffia and banana leaf fabric panels of the screen and 100 per cent wool rug bring absolute comfort to any interior; while the magnitude of material, fabric and colour palette options make each interior unique.

So whether selecting an upholstered sofa system in velvet, jacquard or bouclé; a cashmere blend decorative pillow in ecru, camel or black; combining an Amoenus Soft swivel sofa with an oval Elios table with a shellac finished top or a circular Loto table in brushed black oak – Maxalto’s atmospheric spirit prevails, and will continue to resound amidst the pressure of the tide, providing designers with a classic and trusted furniture palette on which to rely.
