When seeking new ideas and concepts, it is important to vary our perspective every now and then and see the world through different eyes. ‘Outside the box’ is a motto of our age, which has evolved from its origins in computer science into a popular concept with widespread resonance. The underlying concept is clear – looking beyond and questioning boundaries in order to find innovative solutions.

This unconventional and creative way of thinking also plays a central role in the virtual Heinze ArchitekTOUR 2021. Understanding how we will live in ten or 50 years first and foremost requires the courage to tackle the question: how will we want to live in the future? The ‘Out of the Box’ series identifies the potential approaches and role models. Katharina Benjamin from KNTXTR will talk about community building beyond classic media and new cultures of perception, Christos Chantzaras from TUM looks at architects as business developers, and Marcella Hansch from everwave presents an innovative technology for greater sustainability, while Maurizius Staerkle Drux shows his film Die Böhms – Architektur einer Familie (Concrete Love: The Architecture of the Böhm Family).

In addition to these wide-ranging inputs, further insights can be discovered in virtual 360-degree tours of the German Architecture Museum, such as the new BDA exhibition Sorge um den Bestand (Concern for Inventory). Or get in touch with one of the 100 some exhibitors at the digital trade fair stands. It is worth taking a look to make the most of the varied and comprehensive programme and focus on individual interests – whether inside or outside of the box.
