The history of the firm founded in 1977 under the name Interprofil GmbH is dotted with design awards – a success story that continued unbroken when it was integrated into the JAB Anstoetz Group as Interprofil KG in 2006.

In 2012 the collection was renamed ipdesign and now also stands for exclusive, design-oriented upholstered and adjustable furniture; along with the Bielefelder Werkstätten collections, the brand signals the manufacturer’s commitment to the top-end segment. “First and foremost, what we expect of our own products is a reflection of what our customers expect,” says Claus Anstoetz, who sees the lifeworld of people who appreciate modern design, exclusivity and uncompromising quality as the natural home of the handcrafted sofas and armchairs with special functions.

“For us, it’s all about creating accentuated and intelligent solutions that don’t overemphasise things like the mechanical functions of a recliner and are extremely easy to use,” says the head of the company with obvious enthusiasm. In combination with the brand’s mainly minimalistic design, leather plays a crucial role in giving the models of the ipdesign collection their distinctive look. Besides guaranteeing the furniture’s unmistakable character and longevity, the material also ensures the kind of look and feel that does not equate quality of life and quality interiors with voluminous easy chairs. It goes without saying that only the best leather is used – aniline or semi-aniline dyed, because the layer of colour that is applied to pigmented leathers obscures their naturalness beneath a uniform surface.

That’s out of the question for leather upholstery by ipdesign. It develops a patina, provides top seating comfort and an optimal microclimate for the user, has a soft, attractive feel and ages rather than wearing out. But the leather covering is only the crowning glory of a handcrafted production process in which one upholsterer is responsible for a complete model. The metal substructures and their fine finishes, the upholstery foams (the different densities and hardnesses of which have to be meticulously specified and selected) and, last but not least, the reliable mechanisms and fittings – all these components are responsible for the excellent reputation of the ipdesign collection, from the Jon Edwards range all the way to Master and Cliff.

Every success story starts out with an idea from a designer and a stimulating collaboration between designer and manufacturer. And when both of them focus firmly on customers’ needs and expectations, as is the case at ipdesign, the success makes all the effort worthwhile.
