From the moment we opened our doors in 2002, we have been guided by a singular purpose: to create buildings and spaces that are functional, beautiful and unusual. In a word, or two, architecture of true and lasting value.

This is anchored in the belief that great design is a process, not a preconceived idea. We work together to create rich and inspiring spaces and places, allowing the innate constraints and contingencies of a project to inspire and inform us. We capture the unique essence of each and every project. The poetry matters to us. So does the detail.

Thoughtful design is critical to securing a viable future for generations to come. Consequently, the prevailing ethos in our work is one that prioritizes sustainability not as an afterthought but as a foundational principle. We place equal emphasis on the pragmatics of buildability and constructability, and on the implementation of current and progressive building technologies.

Diversity marks our practice. Our portfolio encompasses a deliberate range of size and complexity, from residential, institutional and commercial buildings to master planning and feasibility studies. We’re honoured and delighted that much of this work has been recognized by numerous architecture and design awards over the years.

With each new project we embrace yet another opportunity to reimagine the built form of the world we inhabit through the values of our practice. Our work is unified by a deep connection to context and a sense of quiet restraint that permits the natural character of both site and building materials to emerge. For us, great design is honest. It is just enough.

Biography
Andre D'Elia, Principal
B. Arch (Carleton University), OAA, FRAIC
Since founding superkül in 2002, Andre D’Elia has provided leadership and exceptional client service on the firm’s projects in a wide variety of sectors: academic, retail, office, and both single-family and multi-unit residential. His affable leadership style and superb communication skills are matched by a strong aptitude for design and construction. Particular areas of expertise include sustainable design, construction detailing and sequencing, and the redevelopment of heritage and existing properties at all scales.

Born in Toronto, Andre received his professional architecture degree from Carleton University in 1993, graduating with distinction. He interned in Italy before returning to KPMB Architects in Canada as a project architect on a number of award-winning buildings, including Richmond City Hall in British Columbia, which received a Governor General’s Medal for Excellence in Architecture in 2002. Andre is a registered architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (FRAIC). He is also a member of the Toronto Community Housing Design Review Panel. As a committed advocate of the architectural profession, Andre is generous with his time and expertise, having lectured at colleges, universities and conferences and serving as an OAA mentor.

Meg Graham, Principal
BES, B.Arch (Waterloo), MDesS (Harvard University), OAA, FRAIC
Meg is known by her clients and the studio for her critical insight and passion for design. Developed over many years of practice, her expertise is broad and varied; she has successfully led a number of the firm’s projects in residential, institutional and retail sectors, along with initiatives in master-planning and adaptive reuse. Since 2001, Meg has taught design at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto, and has been a visiting lecturer/critic at several architecture schools in Canada and the US.

An articulate communicator and advocate for design, Meg has contributed her expertise in volunteer and board positions that speak to her strong leadership role both in and beyond the design community. A past Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects, she is a member of the City of Toronto Design Review Panel, the Fort York Precinct Advisory Committee and the Harvard University GSD Alumni Council. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the University of Toronto Schools. Meg received her professional architecture degree from the University of Waterloo (B. Arch, 1997), winning the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal in her thesis year. She also holds a postgraduate degree from Harvard University (MDesS, 2003). Meg is a registered architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (FRAIC).
