Excitement is growing: Within a week, Zurich will be the stage of the most interesting Swiss design event, for four days - from September 7 to 10, 2017.

The first Design Biennale Zurich is almost here and the detailed supporting program can be found at www.designbiennalezurich.ch.

The Design Biennale is not an ordinary exhibition: visitors can participate, discover and explore the numerous exhibitions, guided tours, talks and workshops. The occasion is not just for professionals, but for all who are interested in design. Even for children, there are different possibilities to playfully explore the world of design at the Biennale.

The following is an insight into the supporting program of the Design Biennale Zurich 2017 – have fun exploring.

On the Thursday of the Biennale, in the Werkstadt, raw materials, tests and life cycle assessments can be discussed at the BioabbauBAR, during the special presentation "Materials from Tomorrow: Bioplastics". In addition, radio and TV original Hannes Hug, in his special guided tour "Return to Forever" at the Landesmuseum Zürich, is looking at the actual inner life of selected exhibits discussed in the exhibition "Back to the Future".

The Biennale Friday is devoted to the question "What about Tomorrow", the theme of the major design conference at the Toni Areal. It offers new impulses for creatives and companies, who place emphasis on design as an innovation driver. The "CreativeMornings", founded in 2008 by blogger swiss-miss.com in Brooklyn, will also organize a special edition of their breakfast presentations for the Design Biennale. The speakers will be informed about the newsletter (from 1 September).

On Saturday, children will be able to sketch and design their own world flag with the designers of Postfossil, as part of their exhibition "Flags for the Earth", in the Old Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich. Anyone who would prefer to talk, rather than participate in handcrafting, can discuss the relevance of creative work in society at the Biennale Zentrum, with the young designers and initiators of moneynotlove, as part of "Design for Government". The initiators of Forward are also taking part in a public discussion about "The Future of Work" and are happy to exchange ideas about the concept of work and future creative work.

In the "Kreativlabor" in the Toni-Areal, an open workshop for families with children aged 4 and over takes place on Biennale Sunday. Three-dimensional figures are created from two-dimensional kits: on wheels, for being stretched, or as finger puppets. In the context of "Design zum Zmittag", the editor Lilia Glanzmann from Hochparterre speaks with David Einsiedler of the lighting manufacturer Midgard, Christian Kägi of the label Qwestion and other designers, about the “retail revolution”.

The two-storey ETH x MuDA Robotic Pavilion in the Old Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich becomes a place where children can approach the topic of digitalization and the logical and conceptual thinking of programming. The Design Walk also provides interesting information about design in the public space, in the form of a guided tour of the installations of the Design Biennale. More information can be obtained during the four days at the Biennale Zentrum.
