For DALI’s customer base of international architects and designers, the company’s wide choice of loudspeakers and audio equipment is a boon, providing them with greater flexibility when it comes to specifying the most suitable product for a particular project. But inevitably, with choice, comes the need for judicious decision-making, which needs to factor in many variables – from where to position speakers and how many are needed, to optimising sound quality and the right choice of audio cables.

Conveniently, DALI’s customers can count on the company’s many consultants for advice: the Danish brand has a presence in over 70 countries, so one of its trained specialists is never far away. DALI’s consultants, who share a passion for faithfully reproducing music and home-entertainment, are able to tap into the company’s 37 years of expertise.

Arguably, assistance is all the more necessary when you consider that choosing the right speaker is partly subjective, according to Torben Nielsen, Product Manager for DALI Custom Installation: ‘It’s a bit like when you buy a bottle of wine – you can buy one that’s inexpensive and a more expensive one, but the general impression you get is that they taste pretty much the same. You can say the same for speakers – we humans have got so used to being surrounded by noise that we’re not good at discriminating between good and bad sound. But once you’ve upgraded them you can experience and appreciate the difference. You even wonder how you could have lived with the sound quality you had before.’

He goes on to say that every interior design project needs to be considered on a case-by-case basis, each one necessitating a solution tailored to its exact needs. He advises one starts by assessing the requirements of a specific project, then taking things from there. ‘Our consultants can look at all types of rooms and venues and discuss what quality of sound and sound coverage is required for a specific project’ says Nielsen.

After this reconnaissance, he adds, final decisions can be made about where to position speakers and how speaker performance can be determined in the interests of achieving the most satisfactory solution.
