A PAVILION INSPIRED BY NATURE
WXCA, an architectural workshop from Poland and the Swiss studio Bellprat Partner designed the pavilion and the exhibition to create a consistent, engaging and memorable experience.

Visitors – captivated by the sculptured body of the building, the kinetic installation reminiscent of a flock of birds dancing in the wind surrounding the pavilion, the open ground floor plan, the music from the concert zone, and the café or play area for the youngest visitors – can learn about the flora and fauna and the great wealth of landscapes present in Poland, discovering the abundance of natural resources that it holds. The space in the entrance area has been foreseen as a demonstration of architectural harmony with nature, which also encompasses the Polish Pavilion, in order to then be led to the first floor through a lighting installation of the walls of the interior space that engages, captivates, and imitates the movement of the visitor. There, a tree of spatial cubes emerges before one’s eyes that urges to personally venture out, explore and discover Polish inventions and products from various sectors of the economy, the creation and production of which was inspired by a wisdom flowing from nature. Following this experience, their sensor-detected movement is reflected by lights on the wall. The mechanics of the kinetic installation in the central soul of the pavilion is triggered by the movement of visitors. Every one of us is a part of a community and all our actions have meaning.

It is with this reflection in mind that we guided our guests to the temporary exhibition spaces of the different regions where they can become acquainted with the local communities in Poland acting and working together and impacting the closest neighbourhoods, so as to ultimately view our activities in a global context as individuals, societies, and a nation.

On the luminous globe of our beautiful planet, we can track the fate of our compatriots whose inventions changed and will continue to change the world and the achievements of our many sportswomen and sportsmen. They are people with passion, with the crowned eagle etched in their hearts, who through their actions create and shape the modern world for us.

“Creativity Inspired by Nature” is the motto crafted by us to build a unique narrative around it that originates from the very source – a fascination with learning about nature by harnessing it wisely for people’s needs, right up to the reflection that we are all part of the ecosystem, that diversity is our strength, and that by referring to this diversity we are reaching as far as the stars. Indeed, there is no other home than our beautiful planet and the fate of this celestial globe is in our hands.

-When designing the Polish Pavilion for Expo 2020, we were not creating a building but rather a highly multifaceted phenomenon and experience – said Michał Czerwiński from WXCA, coauthor of the design.

-The Polish Pavilion is a living organism. It is a joyful experience, a glorification of life as the highest value, a place for everyone – above all, for families with children. The Polish Pavilion is inspired by nature. We consistently developed this proprietary motto and project assumption of ours, creating the opportunity for visitors to contemplate the phenomenon of nature, reflect upon the coexistence of man and nature, and explore and embrace technology. I hope that the space we created will be a source of true inspiration as to how to wisely draw from the riches and wisdom of nature - added Marta Sękulska-Wrońska, coauthor of the design, WXCA partner.
