A healthy workplace to lower greenhouse effect – Barefoot Design’s office space for Poly Terra focuses on sustainability.

Berlin, 09/01/2016. Finished this spring, Barefoot Design’s office space for Poly Terra is already setting new standards for the healthy working environment of the future: environmentally effective, nature-inspired design and sustainable, low emission materials meet a fluent open architecture.

Located on the ground floor of the recently opened Charlottenhöfe on Lietzenburger Straße in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Barefoot Design realized an innovative office concept on 270 m2: four employee workstations, two integrated executive offices, a spacious reception area, a conference room and an archive. The office expands to a fully equipped kitchen including a lounge area with garden access. In addition, an apartment has been integrated into the office unit, welcoming business partners and guests.

A total of 190 objects, such as chairs, cabinets and lighting were designed and custom-made exclusively for this project. To keep the carbon footprint as small as possible, the architects used low emission glued bamboo as base material for furniture and flooring. Designed to be contact-friendly, the space set-up is wide open. Medium-high slatted cabinets provide privacy when needed, adding additional glass walls for executive workstations. Only meeting and side rooms are equipped with closable doors.

A synergy of nature and design, every aspect of the workspace fulfills multiple purposes at once: self-developed lamps from acoustic felt not only reduce noise but draw relaxing lighting scenarios across the ceiling. Light green, long-piled area rugs provide comfort and provide a peaceful vibe. Clay-based paints and mineral lime plastering turn walls and surfaces into a soft concrete and Vals stone look. Being more than accents alone, staging various plants and moss sculptures around the office increases the oxygen level and thus fuels creativity.

By remodeling the office space, the Berlin-based studio created a holistic experience in a healthy environment, which is closely linked to Barefoot Design’s Leitmotiv: "Healthy and creative within the workflow", an innovative design language that increases both creativity and productivity.
