SAINTLUC, a new proposal in the world of furniture
« I come from the world of composite materials. I know in-depth their proprieties and potentialities, i have worked with them for a lonf time, with applications in automotive and aviation R&D departments. Later on, the desire to experiment and explore new horizons has brought me to test these materials in an enviroment that's less prone to rigid industrial standards, and more fit and open to concepts as shape and aesthetical purpose: the world of design. That's why i've created SAINTLUC a new proposal in the world of design.
By substituting flax fibre for fiberglass, we have composing a new eco-process which defines both the soul and the DNA of the SAINTLUC créations : a valuable alliance of resistance, strength, and elegance.
To SAINTLUC, each new item is born from changing and sharing, is a tale of men, talks and encounters."
Frédéric Morand
SAINTLUC founder
SAINTLUC FURNITURE IS THE RESULT OF AN ECOLOGICAL INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH:
LINEN, THE ECOLOGIC FIBER
A composit material is the intimate union of reinforcing fiber and a matrix (a resin or thermoplastic). This matrix has the sole function of holding the fibres together. The performance of a composite material is solely due to the reinforcing fibres.
Three years of research were needed to control the implementation of the flax fiber to obtain a lightweight composite material; performant, renewable, and recyclable. Flax is the perfect ecological alternative to fiberglass. With similar mechanical characteristics flax is twice as light and requires ten times less energy to produce.
The process implemented for the SAINTLUC productions results from a skilful harmony between the most advanced technologies of the composites industry and a know-how worthy of the artisans of art.
The flax selected by DCS to be implemented in its creations is grown in Normandy and recognized as the best in the world. This excellence is the result of the meeting of three beneficial factors: the presence of suitable soils, favourable climatic conditions, and the expertise of experienced and quality conscious flax growers. Flax culture is rotary and so does not exhaust the soil. It requires very little fertilizer and as the best wines, no irrigation. The transformation of the plant into fibre is environmentally friendly and produces no waste, unlike artificial fibres such as viscose, bamboo, or corn.
