This tubular steel desk is a successful example of the Bauhaus' programmatic claim of combining art and technology into a formal unit. The tabletop and storage elements made of varnished or stained wood harmonically fit in with the tubular steel design. The supporting frame consists of a single line; the wooden elements seem to float in it. The simple piece of furniture, which is formally balanced in its proportions, represents an expressive piece of contemporary history known as ""The New Objectivity."" We produce various versions of this model.

Frame chrome-plated tubular steel, body in stained ash or open pore varnish in various shades. Drawers lockable with central lock. Also available as version with open shelf compartments.

Current product changes:
- We have equipped the desk's drawers with a self-closing drawer track. Due to the increased size of the track, the arrangement and number of drawers has therefore changed.

- The version with shelves can now be fitted with drawers. They have an individual order number

This winter Gebrüder T 1819 has an attractive sales campaign for its customers: from 1 September 2014 to 30 April 2015, the desk S 285 by Marcel Breuer in black or white will be available for a special price in specialist shops. The tubular steel frame and wooden parts are lacquered in the same colour for this fine version, creating a striking visual effect. In addition, the buyers of the Bauhaus classic in the “Black or White” edition will receive a standing lamp LUM 2.0 (125 cm) – also lacquered in black or white – as a free gift. Together, the two pieces of tubular steel furniture form an elegant pair for personal workplaces.

The minimalist tubular steel desk S 285 by Bauhaus teacher and architect Marcel Breuer is a successful example of the programmatic claim of the Bauhaus to combine art and technology into a formal unity. The wooden tabletop and storage elements harmoniously fit into the minimalist tubular steel frame. The supporting frame shape forms a line – and the wooden elements seem to float within it. To this day, the designs from the tubular steel boom in the 1920s and 1930s are considered revolutionary achievements. Their simple forms were the expression of a new attitude in everyday culture and architecture which became known as “New Objectivity”.

A clear, reduced formal language is also characteristic of the tubular steel luminaire LUM 2.0 and – especially in the same colour as the S 285 – makes it an ideal match for the classic desk. It is equipped with cutting-edge LED technology and guarantees the highest possible ease of operation thanks to numerous technological subtleties such as a sleep timer that automatically shuts the light off after two hours, a NightLight, which clads the frame in soft light at night, and the mechanism for switching the light on and off via motion detector: a gentle wave of the hand along the head of the lamp is enough to make the LUM switch on or off. LUM 2.0 was first presented this spring and results from the technical revision of the design by Ulf Möller from the year 2010.
