creates Design Bar for Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair has commissioned the design collective Camp Site to design its 2009 Design Bar. The focus will be on functional style and re-usability. All the fittings and furnishings of the Design Bar conform to the wishes of the Red Cross, which will receive them as a gift after the end of the exhibition.
"We have decided in favour of a cooperation with a humanitarian aid organisation, which wishes to integrate these functional and attractive objects more closely into its own surroundings," explains Johanna Asshoff from Camp Site. In the creation of the Design Bar Camp Site intends to pass the furnishings which are donated by exhibitors on to the new owners, which will give the furniture a longer life expectancy and benefit the environment in that this donation represents a kind of integrated re-usability."

The bar will be completely red in colour: "We chose red for practical reasons: the exhibition takes place in February, when it's gray, cold and unfriendly. We want to create a warm, cosy atmosphere. Red symbolises colour and love." says Ms Asshoff.

The aim of the Bar – a mixture of exhibition and bar – is to present a particular Swedish designer or group of designers. Designers highlighted by the Bar in earlier years include Marge architects, Front Design Group, the Broberg-Ridderstråle duo and, most recently, Save our Souls.

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair takes place in Stockholm from 4 to 8 February 2009.
