Wormhouse: A different take on space
Sustainable, minimalist and extremely refined: The Worm-house not only inspires with its extraordinary form and façade, it combines the most diverse products in a coherent concept and opens up completely new spatial experiences.

Like a worm, the 105 square metre detached house meanders through the Polish landscape. The unusual shape of the building immediately catches the eye and opens up a wide range of interpretation possibilities. The expressive design was not only about meeting the highest architectural standards, the focus was much more on sustainability and optimal use of space. As the budget was limited, but a sustainable solution was specifically desired, savings were made on the number of square metres, however the client did not want to lose the feeling of spaciousness inside the house.

Bi-folding doors open spaces
With large glass facades at the front of the building, the architect created a connection to the surroundings. They flood the rooms with light and brightness and provide boundless views of the wide fields and the Vistula River. In order to optically expand the living space and to merge the interior and exterior space, architect Dr. Peter Kuczia integrated bi-folding doors on the south side of both floors, which allow a threshold-free transition to the garden and the roof terrace. The flexible bi-folding doors from Solarlux can be opened completely using the pull-out mechanism. Stowed as a narrow package on the side, but also when the elements are closed, they dissolve spatial conventions and create impressive, almost limitless spatial impressions. This is because the filigree aluminium profiles with a sightline of only 99 mm offer maximum transparency.

The high degree of transparency and the strong reference to the surroundings give the unique Wormhouse an even more original touch. The bi-folding doors from Solarlux fit perfectly into the overall concept and even enhance the sus-tainability aspect. Due to a construction depth of only 84 millimetres, excellent thermal insulation values of up to 0.8 W/m2K are achieved.

The bathroom on the upper floor can be opened completely to the roof terrace with the bi-folding door from Solarlux. This allows the occupants to relax almost outdoors in the bathtub recessed in the floor. A folding cover of the bathtub offers more space in the small room so that two additional comforta-ble showers could be accommodated. The foldability of elements runs through the entire project.

The clever architecture with flexible systems makes the re-duced living space appear larger and the thought of confinement does not even arise. The interior concept, the shape of the building and glass facades open up the house and create a unique experience in space.
