Conversion of the railway station from the Wilhelminian time in Rottenburg am Neckar

Our task was to create an experienceable and attractive new space for purposes beside mere arrival and departure. This new place is to be enlivened by various uses and filled with moments of surprise. The architecture from the Wilhelminian period remains the main design language – the characteristic elements of this time are carefully restored, embellished, and are complemented by the new zeitgeist.

The station concourse is transformed into an event hall, making various sorts of cultural events possible. At first glance, the room may seem almost monochrome cream-coloured. Fine details such as delicate brass strips separating ribbed tiles are only noticeable at second glance, but play an important role in the design of the space. The organically shaped light sculpture adds a sense of poetry to the space. Deliberately interrupting the symmetry of the space, it creates a long-distance effect to the outside, regardless of the time of day.

The Serviced Apartments were designed for living and working equally. Upon entering an apartment, doors with milled details, wooden herringbone floors and high skirting boards are reminiscent of the past. A large-scale use of sportive colour creates a clear contrast to the historic building and provides a smooth base for new functions. The ambience of the rooms radiates freshness and elegance at the same time.

Special attention was also paid to the design of the ancillary rooms and routes between different building parts.
