Hungarian designer László Szikszai (b.1968) is a contemporary pioneer of handcrafted, timeless furniture rooted in Central European tradition. As founder of sixay furniture, Szikszai combines high-level craftsmanship with modern minimalism, using solid European hardwoods and natural finishes to create furniture that is functional, honest, and enduring. Breaking from mass production, he champions ecologically responsible design that integrates durability, tactile quality, and harmonious form. His award-winning pieces—such as the THEO desk, FINN chair, and SIXtematic series—are known for their ergonomic clarity and refined detailing. Szikszai’s vision is guided by the belief that well-designed furniture should outlive trends and be passed on across generations. The products of sixay are internationally recognized, and distributed throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Debrecen in 1968, Szikszai discovered his passion for design early through airplane modeling and went on to study woodworking and design in Sopron.
A trained wood-industry engineer and product designer, Szikszai’s background includes formal training at the Sopron University of Forestry and Wood Industry and hands-on work in Vienna, where he embraced high standards of craftsmanship and ecological design.
In 1995, he founded sixay furniture, where he continues to lead design, production, and brand development. His furniture reflects a clear philosophy: to create enduring, honest, and beautiful objects meant to last generations.
