The former laboratory of an antique furniture restorer is transformed into a flexible atelier with exhibition space. The double need to have a large flexible space and a more private area led to freeing up the space facing the street, equipped with two windows, concentrating all the service functions - bathroom and mezzanine with the sleeping area - on the internal side towards the courtyard. The toilet is in visual continuity with the space in front through a glass window with iron frames, reminiscent of those of laboratories and workshops in the district. The masonry staircase, with resin finishing, is a sculptural element that becomes a spatial hinge between the various zones, guaranteeing the privacy of the bathroom towards the atelier area. The walls highlight the stratifications of the various activities, in the field of applied arts, hosted by the space in recent decades: additions of plaster, pencil drawings, writings, paint stains, color tests - a preserved patina that contrasts with the new interventions, including the custom stainless-steel kitchen block.
