What defines the threshold between the unbuilt and the complete? This interior project explores boundary, challenging conventional notions of domestic space by deliberately occupying a state between the raw and the refined. Rather than presenting a fully resolved or meticulously polished environment, the design embraces a language of intentional incompletion — a spatial proposition that redefines our perception of permanence and comfort in living spaces.
All permanent surfaces — floors, ceilings, walls, and partitions — are kept as a muted canvas, allowing the exposed infrastructural elements, such as fireproof plasterboard shafts, ventilation ducts, and raw concrete columns, to emerge clearly and stand as equally integral components of the interior. These necessary infrastructural features are intentionally brought into view and granted the same presence as designed interventions, making the space more dynamic and layered. Together, these elements form a quiet but potent framework that supports and elevates everything added afterward — whether through architectural intent or the lived imprint of its occupants.
Within this bare-bones context, the remainder of the interior takes on a transformative role, providing both spatial definition and material depth. It is not merely functional but architectural — organizing space and unifying the apartment through a coherent textural and material language. At the heart of the project lie two continuous closet elements that act simultaneously as separators and connectors: they shape bedrooms, conceal auxiliary areas, and introduce a warm, tactile counterpoint to the otherwise restrained palette through their natural wood finish.
Materiality throughout is considered and unpretentious. Clay, wood, and steel elements, alongside exposed structures, are used in their pure and unadorned state. This interplay between raw and natural materials fosters a subdued material dialogue that resonates quietly yet deeply.
The overall balance quietly shifts upon entering the bathroom. In contrast to the apartment’s calm envelope, this space introduces a more synthetic environment. The subtle change in mood is not a disruption but a moment of quiet divergence — a soft rupture within the broader spatial continuity. While the bathroom remains faithful to the project's principles, its singular application of color and materiality radically transforms its atmosphere, creating a deliberate contrast between the living areas and the home’s auxiliary functions.
