The triangular, rectangular, square, and semicircular LO Edge and LO Solo tables not only convey lightness and movement. They also open up completely new avenues for both creative teaching and motivated learning.

Panta rhei - everything flows! - These words of the Greek philosopher Heraclitus masterfully describe the ideas and wishes that the classrooms of the primary school in Degersheim are intended to fulfill. With agility, lightness, and diverse application and design options, the future furniture is intended to be independently, quickly, easily, and quietly transformed into the appropriate learning environment. Instructions in a circle, independent work alone, in pairs, or in teams are intended to provide space for motivating teaching and learning while maintaining the same space resources.

The Concept

In order to create optimal conditions for the implementation of Curriculum 21, the refurnishing of four classrooms was planned based on the principles of the Chur Model. The learning environment and its equipment play a central role in this. Because students independently choose and design their ideal work environment, space and furniture will also fulfill an educational role in the future. Transforming classrooms into instructional, learning, and project work spaces should therefore be easy and quiet for teachers and students, even during lessons. Furniture and equipment not only meet functional and ergonomic standards, but also have a positive effect on the atmosphere and motivation.

The Facilities

The classrooms at Steinegg Primary School were equipped with height-adjustable LO Solo sit/stand desks and the connectable LO Edge table system with magnetic Click & Meet connectors.

For individual learning, LO Solo tables and customized wooden storage modules with plastic trays, as well as LO material boxes, offer perfect learning conditions anywhere. In contrast, the LO Edge sit-stand desks, with their range of geometric tabletop shapes (triangular, square, rectangular, and semicircular), create a dynamic, playful space for design and experimentation for partner and group work.

For dynamic sitting, a new design was developed. The Ray student chair from Holmris was chosen, which creates ideal ergonomic conditions with its soft plastic seat shell.

To ensure a balance between individuality, mobility, and order in the classroom, students store their learning materials in a personal, large Rako plastic box, which finds its permanent place in the LO Customer Solution wooden storage module. For each lesson, the necessary learning materials are brought to the respective learning station in the small LO felt material box.

The mobile, height-adjustable LO Cockpit sit/stand table, together with the Simplex swivel chair with 3D movement mechanism from Girsberger, provides the teacher with a dynamic and confident overview of every teaching situation. The significantly reduced storage space requirement is met in a space-saving manner with the slim LO Caddies.

For even greater flexibility in teaching and room design, the equipment will be supplemented with LO Move partition walls and whiteboards over the course of 2024/25. These not only serve as room dividers but also connect to the classroom tables via Click & Meet connectors. LO Edge line transforms the classroom into spaces for quiet work or, combined with a whiteboard, into a fully-fledged project space for group and team work.

The Success

The atmosphere of the entire classroom has noticeably changed. This has a noticeable positive impact on students' thinking and motivation.

Contemporary teaching is based on a variety of teaching methods. With the new furniture, this diversity can be easily embraced.

Different learning settings can be created quickly, quietly, and with little effort without disturbing other children.

Ergonomics has become increasingly important, as students regularly transition from standing to sitting. In addition, the soft seat shell on the chair allows for healthy mobility while sitting.

Our facility management is thrilled because all the furniture is on casters, eliminating the hassle of moving heavy furniture.
