Named after the iconic Japanese city, Tokyo is an upholstery fabric designed by Helene Vonsild. It has a simple, dusty expression and features a tactile wavelike structure. This is inspired by the grooves made with rakes in gravel at Japanese temples.
A chenille yarn is woven into the fabric, which gives Tokyo its distinctive structure. The irregular, rhythmic play of parallel ribbed lines across the surface of the textile is calm yet dynamic. Helene Vonsild: ‘When designing Tokyo I sketched every single line by hand. I included one little variation on every line to add vibrancy to the gap between the ‘waves’. Repetition amplifies this and gives the textile a vivid structure with a diverse surface’.
The hues Helene Vonsild has crafted for Tokyo are inspired by the Japanese capital, as well as the country’s nature. The textile’s colour scale is refined and distinctive. Tokyo is suitable for a wide range of contract applications, as well as private homes. Thanks to its neutral colour range it works well with a wide assortment of styles and designs.
