Wolfgang C. R. Mezger
The new Pala wooden shell chair by the Swiss furniture manufacturer Girsberger was conceived by the famous German designer Wolfgang C. R. Mezger. Mezger is a specialist in wooden shell chairs with over three decades of experience. Time and time again, Mezger manages to exhaust possibilities and push boundaries to find new ideas when working with moulded wood. In the case of Pala, he designed a distinctively shaped slender seat shell with concave curves that give the chair its special character and high recognition value. The seat and back shell are almost identically proportioned and shaped, resembling an open conch. This look is reinforced by side slits between the seat and the backrest.
The distinctive seat shell can be combined with different frames. Pala is therefore just as well suited to a lounge dining table as to conference rooms and upmarket catering establishments. The frames come in various designs including a four-legged solid wood frame, a four-legged steel frame, a steel skid frame and a rotating four-prong base. The seat shell is available with an ash, oak or walnut face veneer and comes either partially or fully upholstered.
