Sofa for two - The award-winning Era lounge series gets a new family member
Normann Copenhagen expands the popular Era lounge series, designed by Simon Legald, with a two-seat sofa with well- proportioned design, a sharp silhouette and a contemporary expression. The series' DNA is clearly evident in the sofa's soft curves and sleek lines, which express a sophisticated calm that invites the sitter to pure and unreserved relaxation.
The small sofa is once again highly relevant after several years dominated by larger sofas. Its simple design, with tight-fitted upholstery and wooden legs originated back in the blossoming functionalism of the 1930s and '40s, as a rebellion against the bulky, Victorian style of the time.
Today, there is a growing need for more flexible furnishings - in public as well as private spaces. Many factors, including less space, many different activities and a need to be online have affected our way of being together. This has created a need for personal space for the individual within the room. The practical size of the Era sofa allows it to easily accommodate furnishing needs in both large and small homes. This is combined with an incredibly strong construction that makes it well-suited for public spaces.
The series combines modern manufacturing methods with traditional furniture craftsmanship in a timeless and characterful design. Simon Legald has this to say about the sofa: "It took a long time to get the proportions and the interplay between the soft curves and the tight lines of the shell completely right. It was crucial, that the upholstery and the stitching was carried out with the utmost artisanal precision. One nice detail, for example, is that we did not use canvas, but instead upholstered the sofa with textile across the entire shell. For the seat cushion, we have prioritised a solution using custom-cut foam, so that it sits perfectly inside the seat."
Just like the series' lounge chairs; the Era sofa is available with a frame in oak, walnut, black lacquered steel or chrome, and with a rocking frame in chrome. Choose between three gorgeous woollen textiles with a vibrant expression and beautiful structure, or soft and resilient leather in a countless variety of colour.
The classic Era sofa was presented at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile furniture fair in Milan, Italy in April 2015.
Classic, inviting, nostalgic and curved. That's one way of describing the new range of lounge chairs designed by the Danish designer, Simon Legald. But the Era collection is many other things too. The design is well-proportioned, the lines are sharp, and the feel is contemporary. Era combines modern production techniques with traditional furniture craftsmanship in a timeless and characterful design.
With its streamlined design and high quality, Era is a durable, long-lasting and versatile collection that easily accommodates modern interior’s need for flexibility. The chair is suitable for many different rooms in the home and can easily be used for different purposes as needs change. The Era collection is designed to transcend generations and is just as at home with lovers of design or families with children, as it is with young couples or their grandparents.
The Era Lounge Chair is available in both a high and low version. The legs are available in oak, walnut, black lacquered steel or chrome, as well a chrome frame for the rocking chair. A footstool is also available for the Era collection, allowing ample opportunity for comfortable relaxation and rest for the feet. Choose between two lovely wool textiles with a vivid feel and beautiful structures, or soft, durable leather in a vast number of colours.
Simon Legald says:” It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair”.
