Ancient Greece’s architecture is the inspiration for the floor and table lamp that Tommaso Caldera has designed for Contempo Italia.
Even its name, DORI, does indeed evoke the Doric column. A monolith, but made anyway of two elements: a base (the shaft of the pillar) and a metal diffuser (the echinus). Classic and essential lines which recall the clean-cut and primitive shapes of the most ancient of Greek architectural orders: the shaft, tapered upwards, gracefully supports the frustum diffuser.
DORI is the material synthesis of two elements, as well: the wood or marble for the “shaft” (with cork being evaluated as an additional option) and the metal for the diffuser, available in different finishes or colors (anodized or gloss-lacquered). DORI spreads its light in different directions: the light source and the diffuser direct the lights upwards, the ceiling reflects it, diffusing it back to the whole room. The ambient and the chromatic range of the walls and ceiling thus determine the intensity and degree of the illumination. Thought conceived as a domestic accessory, perfect as a final touch to a living room, it still can be applied in a Contract environment.
