We are proud to introduce the first Menu-chair ever. A beautiful and simple, three-legged one, designed by the Stockholm based, Taiwanese duo Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei, also known as Afteroom. They have a clear and non-compromising approach to aesthetics and design, they strive to create designs that grow even more beautiful with time – and with their fine sense of detail, they manage to make “simple design” even more simple.
Afteroom Chair was the result of deconstructing an item, piece by piece, with the purpose of obtaining an original design. The rounded details such as the seat and flexible back support, both in wood, contrast the solid steel frame. And when looking at the chair, it’s difficult to differentiate what is what, due to the designers’ attention to detail. Chen-Yen Wei: “Afteroom Chair is based on the concept of reducing the amount of materials to the minimum and by doing so pushing the aesthetic appearance to the maximum”.
Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei get their inspiration from an intriguing interest of forms, senses, proportions, materials and cultures and often describe themselves as advocates of time on a mission to create beautiful products, which will only get more valuable as time passes by. Design you can grow old with.
We sure could grow old with the Afteroom Chair.
NEWS AW14 collection:
- Afteroom Chair with Padded Seat - provided with Kvadrat fabric.
- The Afteroom Barstool. The same innovative and clean design as Afteroom Chair – but with longer legs. The tall Afteroom Barstool is perfect as an extra chair in the kitchen, as the beautiful front row of a bar area or as the new and striking chairs in the office waiting. The chairs are both light, comfortable and durable.
“The Afteroom Chair and Afteroom Barstool are an homage to Bauhaus and functionalism. The simplicity of its design combined with the quality of materials is what’s important. We embraced the challenge of designing something minimalistic with clean lines, without in any way compromise its comfort. In that sense we’ve looked towards classic Scandinavian features as inspiration”, says Hung-Ming.
