Side tables

 
Garden side table are practical and decorative pieces of furniture that people can use to put down a book, a cup of coffee or potted flowers. Side tables in this selection are designed for the outdoors, and therefore are sturdier and more resistant than their indoor counterparts.

MOWOstudio’s ‘Molo coffee table’ designed by Delivé is visually light side table with a cantilever steel structure that will delight fans of understated, minimal design. On the other hand, Oxley’s Furniture’s ‘Brownian Round Coffee Table’ exudes traditional appeal by featuring a richly patterned top and three decorative, cabriole legs, cast from aluminium. Hugo de Ruiter’s ‘Attol Aluminium side table’ by Oasiq is a contemporary design with four diverging legs and a rounded, square tabletop.

Weather-resistant materials, such as concrete and plastic are also used. OGGI Beton’s ‘Cheese Tisch aus Beton’ is a hollow concrete cube with circular perforations in its sides. Paolo Grasselli’s ‘Atollino Outdoor’ for MODO luce is a castor-mounted, cylindrical side table made from polyethylene. Italian manufacturer Marsotto Edizioni invited some of the world’s most renowned designers to create side tables from marble. These design include James Irvine’s ‘Salto Ponte Ipe’ that resembles an I-beam profile; Thomas Sandell’s zig-zagging ‘Melt Tilt Tiltino’ side table; Naoto Fukasawa’s robust ‘Poodle’ side table with four cylindrical legs and a square top; and Konstantin Grcic’s ‘Galata’, a side table with a massive base that eventually cantilevers a delicate top surface.

Karim Rashid’s colourful ‘SNOOP’ side table for B-LINE is a miniature, polyethylene console, that can also be stacked to create shelves. A modernist classic, Isamu Noguchi’s ‘Prismatic Table’ by Vitra is hexagonal design whose bold forms are folded from sheet aluminium, inspired by origami. Kenneth Cobonpue weaves a steel wire vortex inside a cylinder and tops it off with a sheet of glass in his ‘Amaya End Table’. Lastly, Riva 1920’s ‘Legno vivo’ is a thick, solid disc of cedar wood that can be used both as a side table and a stool.
