The success of Danish design is without doubt due in large part to Hans J. Wegner. Like no other he embodies the synthesis of the cabinet maker’s craftsmanship with the designer’s creative skill in shaping form. To this very day the unification of these two features remains a model for many, making it a general quality characteristic of Danish design. It therefore goes without saying that a design by Hans J. Wegner forms part of the product spectrum of every well-known Danish furniture manufacturer. Apart from Charles and Ray Eames there seems to be no comparable furniture designer whose designs from the Fifties and Sixties are still in production in such large numbers.
