In the “Textiled Spaces” exhibition at Techtextil, Architonic shows selected photographs by the Paris-based artist Deidi von Schaewen.

Pictures by the renowned architectural photographer have in recent decades decisively shaped our view of buildings by star contemporary architects such as Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, and Jean Nouvel. In addition to documenting iconic buildings, her work for diverse magazines (The World of Interiors, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Elle Decoration) and publishing houses (including Taschen and Flammarion) has explored traditional forms of construction in Africa and Asia.

A recurring theme in her photographs is the ephemeral, the fleeting and provisional, in architecture. One of the artist’s central interests is the search for the beauty of transitory buildings and urban installations, which she pursues on her many journeys throughout the world.

On the occasion of Techtextil, Architonic has chosen forty images from Deidi von Schaewen’s extensive oeuvre which present, in concentrated form, the variety and aesthetics of technical textiles in often unusual urban and architectural contexts, and open to the viewer an unaccustomed perspective on the interplay between textiles and architecture. The exhibition was developed out of the joint publication project that was launched last year.
