Note:
The intricately inlaid stylish furniture of Andrew Szoeke is easily recognizeable. Mittel European in theoretical origin, yet Moderne in form, it reflects an interesting combination of European design and American manufacturing. The Hungarian artist and furniture designer was trained in Vienna at the Wiener Werkstatte and the Kunstgewerbeschule, and absorbed the ideas of such luminaries as Josef Hoffmann, Dagobert Peche and Carl Czeska. He arrived in New York in the early 1920’s and produced a small output of fascinating furniture and calligraphy for magazines.
