Kerem Yazgan, M. Arch

He was born in 1969. He obtained his B. Arch degree from Middle East Technical University in 1993. He received his M. Arch degree in 1996 and PhD. Arch degree in 2003 from the same university. His master dissertation won “Parlar Foundation Academic Award” at METU in 1998. Furthermore, he received awards in various architectural design competitions. His projects were exhibited in several cities and published in journals. He attended Architectural Project Studio at METU for several years.

His Ph.D. thesis entitled "Designography of Architecture" is about the systematics and acts in design processes. Currently he practices at Yazgan Design-Architecture Construction, which he founded with Begüm Yazgan in 2002. He considers his theoretical background in his professional practice and follows an approach that systematize architectural design processes. He developed various projects in which elements of design are interrelated in a clear, systematic, free and flexible way.

Begüm Yazgan, M. Arch

She was born in Ankara in 1974. She graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 1995, where she received a B. Arch degree. She completed her M. Arch degree in 1998 and obtained her PhD. Arch degree in 2006 from Middle East Technical University. She attended Tokyo Institute of Technology as a doctoral researcher supported by a fellowship in 2001. She worked as a research assistant at METU Department of Architecture, in which she attended the Landscape Design studio. Furthermore, she worked on national and international projects of shopping centers, residence, bank, hotel and university buildings in private architectural offices.

Her doctoral dissertation entitled “Post-War Systems Ecology and Environmetally-Appropriate Approaches in Architecture since 1960s” won the “Best Thesis of the Year” award in Middle East Technical University in 2007. It is about the ways in which systems approach, which found a place in the science of ecology after the 1960s, has a profound effect in contemporary discourse in sustainable architecture and the current green architectural practices.

Currently, she practices at Yazgan Design-Architecture Construction, which she founded with Kerem Yazgan in 2002. She considers her past academic career and theoretical background in her professional practices.
