‘Ultimately, it's for people that we design. We make light not only for the eye, but also for the mind, and for the soul, if it exists.‘

This quote comes from the well-known German lighting designer Hans von Malotki, who, in his day, developed lighting concepts for renowned architects such as Mies van der Rohe and Jean Nouvel. In Malotki's view, light should complement architecture. He always focused on people, and the question of how architecture and light affect them.

Good light not only meets specified standards, it also creates atmosphere, conveys comfort and enables ‘good visibility’. The correct light choice is therefore essential, especially for places where people spend long periods of time, have to concentrate on their work or want to learn, such as in the workplace or classroom.

The Swiss luminaire manufacturer Regent Lighting has also made it its business to focus on people, and the improvement of their working and living spaces. To this end, products are developed further and the latest technologies constantly tested. One classic from the Regent Lighting portfolio that has recently been newly developed is Milano Slim, a luminaire that produces the purest of light and which integrates into any room thanks to its unobtrusive, clear design.

Its potential applications are many, but Milano Slim shows its advantages particularly in relation to office and classroom lighting. The cylindrical shape provides homogeneous, 360-degree illumination, which allows the light to shine directly, indirectly or sideways without shadows. Milano Slim thus creates a uniform, pleasant ambient atmosphere, whether in a canteen, break room, corridor or another intermediate area.

In addition, Milano Slim is also available for the first time in an office edition – developed especially with the classrooms, meeting room and office in mind. It has a special optic which, by means of an inserted microprismatic plate with transparent diffuser, ensures maximum visual comfort with regard to both direct and indirect light. Whichever version is desired, thanks to its harmonious design, Milano Slim complements all rooms of a building, creating perfect light in each of them.

Creating a pleasant environment that optimises concentration and creativity is particularly important in the area of education. It’s not only architecture that plays a role here, light also makes a decisive contribution, as Regent Lighting shows with Milano Slim: ‘This technical yet pleasant lighting provides for a playful as well as stimulating environment, and has the necessary amount of indirect light to provide students and teachers with optimal learning and teaching conditions‘, explains Johannes Seifermann, Head of Product Management at Regent Lighting.

The Human Centric Lighting concept has been proven to increase the well-being of people in the room

Optionally, Milano Slim can be equipped with Tunable White Technology, which allows for infinitely variable variation between warm white and cool white light. In this way, the colour temperature can be adjusted to suit individual requirements. It is also possible to adjust the colour temperature to that of natural light throughout the course of the day. This lighting concept, also known as Human Centric Lighting, has been proven to increase the well-being of people in the room, especially in areas with little daylight.

Milano Slim can be ceiling or wall-mounted, is also available as a pendant, and comes in a choice of three different diameter sizes: 430, 580 and 680 millimetres. And simple installation, as well as low maintenance, makes this luminaire a universally adaptable and uncomplicatedly integrated lighting solution for any room.

With the sharp edges, clear lines and reduced height of Milano Slim, Regent Lighting has perfected the classic cylindrical appearance of the Milano collection. The design is timeless, pure and minimalist – it almost feels like it’s floating in space. Milano Slim fits into any environment, discreetly adapting to the given condition. The focus is less on the luminaire itself, but rather on the atmosphere it effortlessly creates.
