Social mobility: Steelcase Roam

One Steelcase study revealed that the vast majority of people feel technology could do a better job of helping them to collaborate, while less than 20 percent of people say they can collaborate spontaneously – sentiments which serve to highlight the shortcomings of most office equipment. Traditional conference tables, with people sitting side by side, limit eye contact, emotional engagement with others and the fast-paced interchange of ideas demanded of productive, high-performing teams. What’s more, static office furniture often restricts the postures people can adopt to the detriment of productivity.

This predicament led Steelcase to create Steelcase Roam, which lends itself to myriad collaborative working methods. This lightweight, moveable, easel-style stand, which incorporates a shelf and can be steered around a room using one hand, glides along smoothly on castors. It was created in collaboration with Microsoft to support its next-generation Surface Hub 2S, a device that transforms any office into a collaborative space. A slimline design that looks good in all interiors, from open social spaces to private enclaves without cluttering them, Steelcase Roam can be used in tandem with the Flex collection.

Steelcase Roam is also available as an easy-to-install, ultra-space-saving, wall-mounted design. It, too, is highly adaptable, suitable for intimate spaces, private offices or large conference rooms. In short, Steelcase Roam is there whenever it’s needed – it works for anything from off-the-cuff brainstorming sessions to more planned meetings.
