Nawabari, the result of a recent collaboration with BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, is just the latest example of BoConcept's long practice of partnering with experts in the field of architecture and design.

The new Nawabari collection is the brainchild of Danish architecture office Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Danish design brand BoConcept. It consists of two sofa sizes, an armchair, two coffee tables and two pouffe sizes

BoConcept is curious about how people live. And not just in the sense of what colour they would like their sofa to be, but in a broader and more sociological sense too, trying to understand what people’s lives at home, at work and on the move, look like and how these things are changing and developing. What kind of spaces do we live in and how would we like them to look in ten years? How can the spaces we live in accommodate the types of lives we dream of living? Who better to talk to about these questions than the people who study spaces and buildings, namely architects.

Nawabari has been conceived with the idea of creating a versatile collection of furniture, suitable for mixing and matching in different colours and fabrics, and for a variety of different settings

Collaborating and exchanging ideas with architects is nothing new to BoConcept. The new Nawabari collection is the latest example of it. Together with the Danish architecture office, BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, BoConcept set out to design a range of furniture that would be flexible, customisable and above all relevant to today’s living and working environments. The result is a collection which especially addresses the contract market, being particularly suitable for hospitality and office landscapes. The Nawabari collection is now part of BoConcept’s product portfolio and by way of demonstration, can be found on multiple floors of BIG's newly built Copenhagen headquarters.

‘We believe in a future that includes an increase in collaborations with architects,’ says Michael Effenberger, Head of Business Development at BoConcept. ‘Both parties being curious about today’s living standards and possibilities, we can learn from each other and help each other. It’s obviously not a new phenomenon that architects and manufacturers work together, but we do see a new way of collaborating where it’s not only about designing furniture but also about specifying that furniture for certain projects.’ Working closer together with architects is part of BoConcept’s commitment to the contract market, being more directly involved with the professionals in the architecture and design field.

Like the Nawabari collection, the design for the Ottawa sofa by Karim Rashid demonstrates BoConcept’s interest in creating versatile and modular furniture that's made to fit into a broad range of interior environments

‘We’ve been working together with award-winning product and interior designer and architect, Karim Rashid, for more than ten years now and it’s such a fruitful relationship. The recent project in London for time-share experts, Flyway, shows how Karim specifies his own BoConcept furniture designs for one of his interior designs’, says Effenberger. ‘We really enjoy these projects where we can apply each other’s expertise and all benefit from the outcome.’
