A.J. Fitness Studio uses bold color for motivation.

Vanceva® color interlayers energize workout areas at new facility.

Given the choice between exercising in a neutral-toned gym or a colorful one, most people will naturally be more motivated by vibrant colors. Like music, color can influence mood. That’s why architect Carlos Enamorado elected to use glass in upbeat colors to bring his vivid vision to life for A.J. Fitness, a modern workout facility in Honduras.

For A.J. Fitness, the main benefit is the use of nontraditional glass colors, providing security and transparency. The facility is built on multiple levels with standard concrete and metal steps to large, open workout spaces. Aluminum framing and glass were used to create the interior and exterior walls as well as the balcony railing surrounding the roof-level outdoor track and weight room. “Up here, color abounds everywhere,” according to the architects.

Glazing installer Vitro Aluminio Honduras supplied 86.8 m2 for the façade, 71.39 m2 of glass for the balcony railing, and another 139.74 m2 for the color cube covering the stairwell down to the other levels. Vanceva interlayers of Tangerine, Coral Rose, Aquamarine, Sahara Sun, True Blue, and Deep Red energize the space. In this project, glass contributed in many ways, offering light, color, privacy, comfort, and transparency. Beyond aesthetics, the Vanceva interlayers also provide security, solar control, sound insulation, and UV protection.

During the day, the vibrant colors pop in natural light, and at night, the building glows. The effect energizes customers who are working out while enticing others to come join the activities.

The best feature of the finished design is the harmony of the color combination. As one juror noted, “The project has a lot of energy, which works well for the function. I imagine it cheers and invigorates people as they come to work out.”
