The Box Top Shop, by Rich, Brilliant, Willing.
Pop-up Retail:
During Design Miami 2008, I.D. Magazine, Charles & Marie and Areaware will host a 1,000 sq.ft. pop-up shop and lounge in the heart of Miami’s Design District, selling limited-edition design objects from Areaware and Charles & Marie, as well as an edition of 300 I.D. tote bags featuring exclusive graphics by Konstantin Grcic, Tord Boontje, and the Bouroullec brothers. Using the language of shipping materials, namely cardboard boxes and tape, Rich Brilliant Willing has devised a practical solution to create a temporary retail environment. By using flat-packed hollow volumes (cardboard boxes), a shop is assembled in a single day. The boxes provide the necessary presentation requirements of merchandise using a minimal amount of material -- the boxes themselves are readymade components drawn from a variety of manufacturers and industrial suppliers. Rich Brilliant Willing assembles these ubiquitous elements into a cohesive, functional whole: The Box Top Shop.
Lounge furniture provided by Vitra and refreshments by Bionade organic sodas.
Following the installation, the cardboard material will be donated to DASH (Design and Architecture
Senior High) for use in sculpture and modelmaking.
