Located between the jungle and the Caribbean Sea in the beachside town of Tulum, Mexico, Habitas | Tulum sits on an acre of land with the destination’s only secluded beach. Built from the ground up in collaboration with local carpenters and artisans, Habitas | Tulum is the flagship hotel of the lifestyle brand HABITAS, founded by Oliver Ripley, Kfir Levy and Eduardo Castillo. Known for its globally curated experiences that focus on wellness, food and music, Habitas has found a permanent home for its community just steps away from the ocean.

Surrounded by lush greenery, each pathway leads to one of 32 individual guest rooms, a three-story lobby with restaurant and rooftop, wellness area, swimming pool and pool deck and private beach. Raised on elevated platforms with consideration for the environment and surrounding jungle, every room is ecologically built with indigenous materials and features a natural palapa roof and private outdoor terrace.

The design is elegant and bohemian with handmade furniture from local hardwood and layered with pieces that reign true to artisanal tradition, craftsmanship and textiles. Rooms also feature a private outdoor rain shower, plush robes and a custom-made line of bath products using all-natural ingredients like coconut, avocado and honey.

The three-story lobby serves as a hub for the community to drink, dine and converse, with multiple seating options including long, communal tables made of reclaimed wood and seating areas with colorful pillows and low-bearing tables. At the base is Moro, the ground-floor restaurant helmed by Chef Federico Cappi, with a menu that focuses on Spanish cuisine with a strong Moorish influence, heavily utilizing spices from North Africa like cumin, black peppercorn, cloves and cinnamon. Dishes include lamb meatballs with lime yogurt, chicken tagine and baked eggplant with chermoula.

Known for its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, Tulum is a resort town located 80 miles from Cancun and is home to one of the most unique archaeological sites in the world. The 13th century walled city at Tulum National Park is one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya, perched over a rugged coastline overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

In addition to these ruins, the destination is in close proximity to the ruins of Coba, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and incredible caves and cenotes for snorkeling or diving. The single beach road that separates jungle and ocean feels remote, but on a short walk or bike ride you’ll find boutique stores filled with hand-dyed clothing and goods, and a diverse mix of restaurants from seafood to coastal Italian.
