The art installation DeepLumen is the first collaboration be-tween artist Marc Gumpinger and innovative entrepreneur Christof Babinsky. The creative concept opens up entirely new possibilities in design for architects, interior designers or event planners.

Christof Babinsky and Marc Gumpinger both work on the inter-face of Future Technology and the century proven methods of creative arts. The result of their first collaboration is an installa-tion that was first presented to the public during the ORGATEC fair 2018. The step-in installation, which was delivered as a fin-ished cube made entirely of glass with special coating, repre-sents a cunning connection between creativity and technology.

The 3m x 6m self-supporting cuboid with a ceiling height of 2.5m is entirely designed from special glass. Whilst three walls and the ceiling are reflective, the floor and one side wall are translucent screens for over 800.000 LEDs, installed behind opaque glass. The reflective glass walls allow the artist to har-ness the reflection of illuminated surfaces in order to create an abstract and fascinating virtual environment and a feeling of vastness. The translucent mirror walls create a miraculous en-vironment, sealed away from the cuboid’s surroundings, for the spectator inside the cuboid. Passers-by can however see the spectator and observe him exploring and experiencing inside the cuboid, due to the properties of the glass used.

The algorithms responsible for providing the visual moving content to the installation were designed by Gumpinger and serve to create a digital world of illusions that, whilst being en-tirely digital, still creates an environment that acts and feels natural. Inorganic means are used to provoke an emotional ambiance that almost feels organic and meets the demands of modern, moving design in a progressive working environment.
