Sweden
Niclas Hoflin is the founder and designer behind RUBN, a Swedish lighting brand renowned for its uncompromising craftsmanship, aesthetics that stand the test of time, and dedication to quality materials. With a background deeply rooted in both design and business strategy, Hoflin brings a rare blend of artistic sensibility and entrepreneurial acumen to his work. He began his professional journey as Managing Director at Bewator from 1990 to 1992, where he honed his leadership and operational skills. From 1993 to 2005, Hoflin worked closely with Danish designer Ole Palsby, serving as both design assistant and business strategist - an experience that deeply influenced his design philosophy, emphasizing simplicity, function, and enduring form. In 2005, Hoflin founded RUBN with the ambition to create lighting that is not only beautiful and functional but also built to last for generations. Under his direction, RUBN has become synonymous with Swedish-made excellence, with each piece crafted in-house at the company’s factory in Vittsjö. In 2010, Hoflin further expanded his commitment to local manufacturing by acquiring the historic Swedish lighting brand, LUXUS, factory, a move that preserved traditional Swedish lighting craftsmanship and embedded it within RUBN’s modern design ethos.
