Edge Side Table

Introducing the Edge Table (2017) by Gabriel Tan, a designer we first met via the Furnishing Utopia exhibition, for which he created new objects inspired by traditional Shaker pieces. In everything he designs, Tan explores the boundary between craft traditions and technology. The results are clarity of form and details that invite the user to appreciate the chosen materials. In creating his Edge Table, Tan was inspired by wooden trays and plates. Made of solid walnut, it has a subtle raised edge that’s visually pleasing while also functional in that it prevents things from rolling off. The curved underside of the table beckons the user’s touch while the round tapered legs further the graceful aesthetic. “I hope people will see a design that is simple but meticulous in detailing, beautiful and at the same time highly functional,” says Tan.
