The cut-out in the backrest of window is not just the design idea which gave the series its name. It is also the reason why the backrest on window gives and tilts backwards flexibly when you take a seat. An unusually modern feature for a wooden chair – as unusual as the fact that it has no additional frame. Martin Ballendat
Germany
Martin Ballendat has enjoyed international success as a designer for decades. Born in Bochum, Germany, in 1958, he completed his studies in design at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. With his studio, Design Ballendat, he works for numerous prestigious brands. After three years of employment with office furniture manufacturer Sedus, he took over as head of design and product development at Wiesner Hager in Austria. He opened his own studio in Upper Austria in 1995, which was soon to be followed by a second one in Germany. Martin Ballendat has been awarded over 100 design prizes and awards. He has been working as a lecturer and guest professor at design schools for more than 15 years.
