Manhattan Highlights

Over the years, WantedDesign has continued to evolve as a strong platform for designers to connect with manufacturers and buyers, and a forum and destination for creating dialogues between the international and U.S. design communities.

This year, in addition to a large representation of U.S.-based design companies, from up-and-coming Brooklyn-based designers like Token or Design Within Reach (who just launched a new collection by the duo Risom/Hardy), WantedDesign is hosting international design pavilions showcasing young designers and more established companies that give a glimpse into the future of design.

Launch Pad

25 designers and their market ready prototypes will aim to catch the eye of manufacturers interested in producing their design. Also, each will vie for a spot at WantedDesign 2016 and WestEdge Design Fair (October 2016, Los Angeles, CA). The Jury includes Jaime Derringer, Founder and Executive Editor of Design Milk; Marva Griffin Wilshire, Salone del Mobile, Milano, Founder and Curator Salone Satellite, International Press Director; Noah Schwartz, Senior Buyer, Design Within Reach; Giulio Cappellini; and Greg Keffer, Rockwell Group Principal.

American Design Honors

WantedDesign, along with long time supporter of American design, Bernhardt Design, will be announcing and presenting the first ever recipient of the American Design Honors.

The WantedDesign Conversation Series

WantedDesign Design Schools Workshop – Theme “Design Forever”

While giving the design community a chance to observe the creative process, the Design Schools Workshop, a WantedDesign signature program, invites students to think about the lives of objects. In other words, to design with the idea that what is being made will last forever.
Led by Centro Design School from Mexico City and with Art Center College for Design, Pasadena, and Savannah College of Art and Design, the workshop culminates with a judging panel (taking place at WantedDesign Manhattan) on Monday, May 18 where the students will present their final concepts to a jury of professionals.

Design Forum (Tuesday, May 19) - 9:30am - 12:30pm

The Design Forum at Industry City will close the 12 days of NYCxDESIGN and WantedDesign Brooklyn. Open to the public, this program will focus on design education and new challenges in educating design students, in the U.S. and abroad, with presentations and panel discussions bringing together design educators, design students and key design industry representatives from around the world.
