More sky bar than coffee house, the DS-265 Coco armchair by de Sede stands for casual cosiness – a relaxed retreat that reflects the spirit of its Vienna-based designer, Sven Dogs.

When we talk about the easy-going Viennese way of life, the city's traditional coffee houses may be one thing that springs to mind for many of us. But designer Sven Dogs also thinks of the modern sky bars that have been enriching the Austrian capital's nightlife for some time now.

When Swiss leather furniture manufacturer de Sede commissioned him to design an extra-soft armchair, the Berlin-born designer, who lives in Vienna, immediately thought of the lounge atmosphere in these trendy locations. ‘The seating in a bar like this should feel like a retreat, something for chilling out on,’ is his conviction. ‘With these armchairs, it should be about softness, feeling relaxed – that's the only way to really feel comfortable when having a few drinks like this.’

An elegant oasis of well-being

With its cosy softness and organic shape, his elegant armchair really does offer a place of soothing retreat to comfortably let the mind wander or simply switch off from the rush of everyday life. Even in busier settings, the armchair functions like a screened-off quiet zone, providing a homely atmosphere that separates the user from the hustle and bustle around them.

‘The DS-265 Coco is an oasis of security, a perfect place for a date with yourself, an island to let go,’ is how de Sede CEO Monika Walser describes the seating experience. Manufactured, of course, with high demands on both material and craftsmanship, the lounge chair is suitable not only for bars and lobbies, but private living spaces, too.

Regardless of where it is used, the softness of the leather combined with the airy upholstery ensures exceptionally high levels of comfort

The seat and back cushion are made of genuine sheepskin and are available in three natural shades. Fluffy cushions also underline the chair's cosy character and contribute to its welcoming feel.

Additionally, thanks to its climate-regulating properties and soft texture, the natural material also feels particularly pleasant on the skin. The designer can easily imagine the sheepskin version working very well in colder places: ‘A chalet in the mountains would be my suggestion. The fur gives the armchair a special warmth. You even want to fall asleep in it.’

Fine curves and a striking profile

The DS-265 Coco's leather-covered seat and back cushions also offer users a comfortable feeling of security: ‘Regardless of whether you sit on leather or fur, whether you are active or just lounging: you always enjoy the cosiness of the materials,’ says Walser.

When it comes to the design itself, the armchair is characterised by its fine curves and elegant shape, with a charming contrast provided by the straight seat edge, which lends a striking profile to the sculptural form of the shell. The designer's signature is clearly revealed in the chair, however, the seams on the seat shell, for example, are, likewise, a definitive expression of the Swiss manufacturer's fine craftsmanship and its decades of experience in turning leather into high-quality furniture.

‘Even after years, our sculptures still inspire with their incomparable comfort and high recognition value,’ says Walser. ‘I would be delighted for the DS-265 Coco to join in our success story – it's like a dear friend, welcoming and embracing.’
