The Biennale Interieur coming up in Kortrijk (Belgium) from the 20th to the 28th of October is now in its 23rd edition. Recognised as the only event of its kind to balance convivial cultural happenings with the biggest names in European design, Interieur has become an important overview of trends, tastes and cultural movements that define design now. INTERIEUR 2012 will be bigger and better than ever with new city locations and an extensive programme with an exciting mix of culture and commerce.

Future Primitives Project Rooms

The world changes, Interieur changes. Our frame of reference blurs: the internet erases boundaries between countries, between individuals and groups, between reality and virtuality. In these interesting but overwhelming times we are looking for new anchor points.

With the Future Primitives Project Rooms, we are going on a trip to discover these anchor points. How do we get a grip? What is the essence? What are our 'primitives' for the future and how do they express themselves in our living environment?

Seven Visionary Visions

Networks increasingly gain importance in our world and in that sense the system of having one guest of honour at the Biennale Interieur is outmoded. For the Future Primitives project rooms, seven artists, designers and architects were invited to reflect on this theme. Nendo (JP), Ross Lovegrove (UK), Greg Lynn (US), Studio Makkink & Bey (NL), Troika (UK), David Bowen (US) and Muller Van Severen (BE) come from different disciplines but all search for answers for the living environment of the future in their work.

The results are visionary, they radiate intuition and a primal power and offer an experience that stimulates reflection: what are your anchor points? What are your 'primitives'?

The seven Future Primitives project rooms are spread over the various locations of the Biennale and are places for inspiration, confrontation and conviviality within the INTERIEUR 2012 DesignCity.
